A Simple Step You Can Take to "Go Green" Now
The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007) took effect on January 1st, 2012, and will be implemented over the next two years. One of the first things to change is the traditional 100 watt light bulbs. The Act states that light bulbs must use at least 25 percent less energy.Traditional bulbs will no longer be available in most stores. By January 1st, 2013, the traditional 75 watt light bulbs will be taken off the market and by January 1st, 2014, 60 and 40 watt traditional bulbs will be replaced as well.
Right now you can find the new energy-saving bulbs in most stores. Look for energy-saving bulbs that use 72 watts or less for the same amount of light that a traditional 100 watt bulb produces.
According to the Department of Energy, if you replace 15 traditional bulbs with energy saving light bulbs you could save about $50 per year.
Many of the energy-saving bulbs also last longer which is an additional savings for you. Nationwide, lighting accounts for about 10 percent of home energy use. With the new EISA standards, by 2015, U.S. households could be saving nearly 6 billions dollars alone.
